A Sunday sweep for the farm system with numerous big performances

Bless You Boys

Toledo Mud Hens 7, Indianapolis Indians 3 (box)

The Hens offense blew up Indy pitching on Sunday to take the series 4-2. And once again, it was Christin Stewart and Aderlin Rodriguez in the thick of things. Rodriguez has been a beast for the Hens all season, but Stewart has been red hot as well. They each launched two-run homers, their 17th and 11th respectively, to help power the offense.

Michael Fulmer started the game to get in his inning of rehab work, and he allowed just a walk, striking out one. Locke St. John had the best inning of the bullpen day, striking out three in the seventh. Nolan Blackwood handled the fifth and sixth with no runs allowed to earn the win.

Rodriguez: 2-4, 2 R, 2 RBI, HR, SO

Stewart: 1-3, R, 2 RBI, HR, 2 SO

Coming Up Next: The Omaha Storm Chasers are in Toledo for a six-game set starting Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. EDT.

Erie SeaWolves 9, Binghamton Rumble Ponies 6 (box)

The big boys came through with enough offense to take this one and split the six-game set. Riley Greene doubled and triple in the contest, while Spencer Torkelson doubled and chipped in three RBI on the day. Ryan Kreidler added a pair of hits, as did Josh Lester. Erie scored seven runs from the fourth through the sixth inning to overcome an early deficit.

Starter Elvin Rodriguez strong start to the season is becoming a distant memory after another rough outing in this one. He allowed four runs in four innings of work, including a pair of long balls to put his club in an early whole. Chavez Fernander leaked a run in the fifth, while Yaya Chentouf went two innings, allowing a solo shot. The best outing of the day was a lockdown performance from Gerson Moreno, who struck out five, allowing just a single in his two innings of work.

Greene: 2-4, 3 R, 3B, 2B, BB, SO

Kreidler: 2-3, R, RBI, BB

Torkelson: 1-3, R, 3 RBI

Coming Up Next: The Akron RubberDucks come to Erie for six starting on Tuesday night.

West Michigan Whitecaps 3, Lansing Lugnuts 0 (box)

A fine outing from lefty Adam Wolf was the centerpiece in this one, as the Whitecaps hung on to split the series. Wolf spun six no-hit frames with nine strikeouts, walking three on the day, before turning it over to Zac Houston and Zack Hess, who each threw a scoreless frame of relief.

The ‘Caps got things going in the second inning. Andrew Navigato singled and stole second base. With two outs, a Cooper Johnson single brought him around to score. The big blow came on a two-run shot to right center field off the bat of Parker Meadows. His third with the ‘Caps came with Daniel Cabrera aboard. Eric de la Rosa stayed hot with a pair of singles in the contest.

Meadows: 1-4, R, 2 RBI, HR, SO

Workman: 2-4, 2 SO

Navigato: 2-4, R, 2 SO

Coming Up Next: The Whitecaps will be in Midland to battle the Great Lakes Loons starting Tuesday night.

Lakeland Flying Tigers 17, Dunedin Blue Jays 5 (box)

The Flygers destroyed Dunedin in this one to split the six game set. A two run shot from Nick Quintana—who is finally showing signs of life—powered Lakeland to a four-run first inning and set the tone for the day. Nick Davila started, and unfortunately he gave those four runs back early before settling in to go five innings. That was ok, as there was plenty more offense to come.

The Flygers pushed across their fifth run in the third, and scored again in the fifth when Quintana scored on a Jake Holton single after hitting a ground rule double. But it was the sixth inning where they blew the Blue Jays feathers off with a nine run inning. Five walks issued in the frame helped, with RBI hits from Eduardo Valencia, Ulrich Bojarski, Carlos Irigoyen and Esney Chacon cashing in the chips. Eliezer Alfonzo hit a solo shot in the seventh for emphasis, while Quintana singled and later scored on wild pitch to complete the butt kicking.

Quintana: 3-5, 4 R, 3 RBI, 2B, BB, SO

Holton: 3-3, 3 R, 2 RBI, 2B, 2 BB

Irigoyen: 3-5, 2 R, RBI, SO

King: 1-5, 2 R, 3B, BB, SO

Coming Up Next: The Jupiter Hammerheads will be in Lakeland for six starting Tuesday night.
