Drew Ward’s grand slam lifts Erie

Nashville Sounds 3, Toledo Mud Hens 2 (box)

Ricardo Pinto threw a good game, but the offense couldn’t come up with the big hits with runners in scoring position. Pinto went six, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks, with five punchouts. The Hens got on the board first as Juan Centeno singled home JaCoby Jones in the second inning. Pinto allowed a two run shot in the third, but the Hens tied it up in the seventh on an Aderlin Rodriguez single that scored Niko Goodrum. Unfortunately, despite 11 hits on the night—all singles—the Hens managed no more offense. Will Vest allowed the game winning run in the eighth to take the loss.

Centeno: 3-4, RBI

Goodrum: 2-5, R, 3 SO

Rodriguez: 2-4, RBI, SO

Coming Up Next: RHP Drew Hutchison (7-3, 3.82 ERA) takes on RHP Thomas Jankins (2-5, 6.39 ERA) at 7:05 p.m. EDT.

Erie SeaWolves 7, Harrisburg Senators 3 (box)

The SeaWolves rode a five run fourth inning to victory on Tuesday night in Harrisburg. Starter Jesus Rodriguez allowed two runs in the third to open the scoring, but a Ryan Kreidler solo shot trimmed their lead, and a Drew Ward grand slam later in the frame opened a lead Harrisburg couldn’t recover from. Rodriguez allowed another run before departing in the fifth, but John Valente singled in Kreidler and Spencer Torkelson in the top of the eighth to squash the Senators hopes for a comeback.

Kreidler: 2-5, 2 R, RBI, HR, SO

Ward: 1-3, R, 4 RBI, HR, BB, SO

Valente: 1-2, R, 2 RBI, 2 BB

Coming Up Next: The two clubs meet up again on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. EDT.

West Michigan Whitecaps 4, Dayton Dragons 3 (box)

Garrett Hill threw a good one for the ‘Caps, and a late two run homer from Jimmy Kerr was the difference on Tuesday night. Hill pitched into the seventh, allowing just one earned run on six hits, with six strikeouts and no walks to his credit. After Dayton scored one in the top of the third, Kerr led off the bottom half with a single, moved to third on Eric de la Rosa’s double, and scored on a Wenceel Perez sacrifice fly to tie things up. A Daniel Cabrera triple in the sixth scored Perez to open a one run lead before Kerr’s long ball in the seventh opened a little breathing room. Angel Reyes leaked two runs in the top of the eighth to make it close, but he ultimately held on, while Zack Hess closed out the ninth for his ninth save.

Kerr: 2-3, 2 R, 2 RBI, HR

Cabrera: 1-4, RBI, 3B, SO

Hill (W, 3-0): 6.1 IP, ER, 6 H, 6 SO

Coming Up Next: First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. EDT on Wednesday night.

Lakeland Flying Tigers 6, Daytona Tortugas 4 (box)

Carlos Guzman’s return from injury appears to be finally gaining some momentum. He wasn’t great in this one, allowing three earned runs in five innings, but he did punch out 10 hitters to just one walk in this one. Kingston Liniak doubled home recent sixth rounder Austin Murr in the third to open the scoring. A Trei Cruz RBI double in the fourth, with Cruz eventually scoring on an error, made it 3-0 Flygers. A Jake Holton two-run single was the big hit in a three run fifth, and to that point Guzman was dominating. The run ended as Guzman departed the sixth with three runs in and no outs recorded. Williander Moreno shut things down from there, collecting eight outs, four of them via strikeout. Gabriel Sequeira closed it out despite allowing a run for his fourth save.

Cruz: 1-3, 2 R, RBI, 2B

Murr: 0-2, R, 3 BB, 2 SB

Schultz: 3-5, R, SO

Irigoyen: 2-5, R

Guzman (W, 3-8, 5.0 IP, 3 ER, 6 H, BB, 10 SO
