There are a lot of bad baseball movies out there, but there are also a lot of really, really good ones. With the “Field of Dreams” game happening thie week, where real players got to stand in the shadow of a fictional movie world (that also features actors playing real people?), we thought it might be a perfect time to talk about the best of the best in baseball movies.
What makes a baseball movie great? Is it memorable characters, or a great representation of the sport itself? It it something funny, serious, or made for kids? Do you like them in a historical context, or something set during the modern era?
Whether or not you love kids flicks (Rookie of the Year, The Sandlot), Oscar-bait (Moneyball); humor (Major League), or dramas (For Love of the Game, A League of Their Own), there are no wrong answers here. We just want you to tell us what baseball movie is your best-loved, and more importantly why. Is it rooted in childhood memory, was it the movie that convinces you to start watching the real game, or do you remember watching it with a loved one?
For a bonus round on this one, you can also share the top five fictional players you would draft from baseball movies.
Head over to the FanPost section, select “New FanPost” on the left, then give us the story of why you love the baseball movie you do (or heck, give us your top five or ten, there’s no limit here.)
