‘Caps Power Past Peoria

West Michigan Whitecaps

COMSTOCK PARK, MI – The West Michigan Whitecaps blasted a pair of home runs as reliever Angel Reyes enjoyed his best appearance this year in a 7-6 victory over the Peoria Chiefs in front of 4,231 fans Saturday night at LMCU Ballpark.

Jake Holton and Parker Meadows both had towering two-run homers, as Reyes posted a season-high six punchouts through 3.2 shutout innings in his second victory of 2021.

Pedro Pages got Peoria on the board in the top of the first with a two-run home run before Meadows responded with his two-run blast in the bottom half to tie the game at 2-2. In the second, West Michigan forged in front as Holton scored Rivera to make it 3-2. In the third inning, both teams plated individual tallies before Holton extended the Whitecaps lead with his two-run homer, 6-3. Pages and Todd Lott roped back-to-back RBI-doubles in the fifth as the Chiefs managed to tie the game before Holton added his fourth RBI of the night with a single, putting West Michigan back on top 7-6. Reyes only allowed two runners to reach until the ninth inning as ‘Caps closer Bryce Tassin slammed the door, setting down the side in order and earning the slim 7-6 Whitecaps victory.

Reyes (2-4) picks up his second win as Tassin earns his sixth save on the season. Colin Schmid (0-1) suffered his first loss, lasting only 2.1 innings while allowing a run on four hits. The Whitecaps improve to 52-55 as the Chiefs fall to 40-67. This season, Reyes holds the longest scoreless streak for any Whitecaps reliever at 13 innings, dating back to August 18th. The Whitecaps secure their first six-game series victory since sweeping the Lake County Captains to conclude the month of May.
