The Erie SeaWolves fell for the second straight night to the Bowie Baysox and were defeated 15-5 on Wednesday at UPMC Park.

Bowie got on the board in the second. Coby Mayo led off the frame with a single against Brant Hurter. Cody Roberts went to first on a fielder’s choice after an error from Andrew Navigato. Toby Welk doubled in Mayo and moved Roberts to third. Andrew Daschbach plated Roberts with an RBI single. Zach Watson reached on an RBI fielder’s choice to give the Baysox a 3-0 lead.

Bowie began the third with three consecutive singles from Cesar Prieto, Mayo, and Roberts to knock Hurter out of the game. Bubby Derby came in relief and retired the first two batters he faced before Watson cranked a bases-clearing double to pull the Baysox ahead, 6-0.

Bowie tacked on a couple of runs in the fourth. Hudson Haskin was hit by a pitch and came around to score on a Prieto double. Two batters later, Roberts laced an RBI two-bagger off of Billy Lescher to put the Baysox on top, 8-0.

Parker Meadows cut the deficit to 8-1 with a solo blast against Cade Povich in the bottom of the fourth. It was his 16th homer of the season.

Bowie extended its lead back to eight with a solo homer from Welk off of Joe Navilhon in the seventh.

Erie responded with a solo homer from Gage Workman against Tyler Burch in the bottom of the seventh. It was his second straight day with a home run, and his 13th long ball of the year, which cut the deficit to 9-2.

The Baysox reached double digits in the eighth. Darell Hernaiz went to first on an error from Gage Workman to open the frame against Nick Kuzia. Connor Norby walked and Haskin smoked a three-run jack. Mayo and Roberts then poked back-to-back singles. Welk knocked in his third RBI with his second double of the evening. Watson laced a two-run single to bring home Roberts and Welk to put Bowie ahead, 15-2.

The SeaWolves showed some life in the bottom of the ninth. Daniel Cabrera worked a one-out walk against Griffin McLarty. Trei Cruz singled and collected his second hit of the day. Navigato knocked in Cabrera with an RBI single. Dane Myers made it a 15-5 contest with a two-run double, extending his hit streak to 10 games.

Povich (2-0) earned the win. He tossed a quality start, going six innings, giving up one run on three hits, walking one, and striking out six.

Hurter (0-2) was tagged with the loss. He tossed two innings, allowing six runs, five earned on eight hits, walking none, and striking out one.
