Game notes: The Tigers will try to recover from a sweep vs. the Seattle Mariners. The Royals were only mildly more competitive in their last set, losing two of three to the Chicago White Sox. These three games are just the beginning of the September actions between the two; there are three more in Kansas City next weekend and three more in Detroit to end the month. Kansas City has won six of their first 10 games in the season series after taking three of four in July.

Hutchison had a solid August, pitching to a 3.04 ERA over five starts (26⅔ innings). He finished between five and six innings each time out and never allow more than three runs. In April, he threw three scoreless innings during a loss to the Royals.

Lynch gave up three runs (two earned) over four innings vs. the Tigers on July 11. Now in his second season, the former first-rounder has a 3.07 ERA and 1.29 WHIP in three starts (14⅔ innings) vs. Detroit. Willi Castro is 4-for-6 vs. Lynch but Jeimer Candelario and Miguiel Cabrera is each 1-for-7.

The series wraps up with a 6:10 p.m. start Saturday and a 1:40 p.m. Sunday.
