DETROIT TIGERS NEWSLETTER: Who is to blame for this June swoon of 9 straight losses?
Game notes: With the Detroit Tigers dropping like a rock in the AL Central standings, watching the young guns is quickly becoming one of the biggest attraction for fans.
And with the injury to Riley Greene, Reese Olson may be the most exciting young draw on the team.
Olson was recently called up from Triple-A Toledo and made his major league debut on June 2 against the Chicago White Sox. He’s been impressive.
The 23-year-old right-hander has allowed just three runs in 10 innings pitched, good enough for an impressive 2.70 ERA. He’s struck out 23.7% of the batters he’s faced and teams are hitting .143 against the rookie, with just five hits allowed in two games. Tuesday’s game will be a fun opportunity for Tigers fans to watch the exciting young rookie.
Olson’s opponent will be no stepover. Strider has a 6-2 record this year with a 3.79 ERA, which is up from his 2.67 ERA last year. Strider has been a little less affective lately with a 2-2 record and a 4.89 ERA in his last seven starts. In his last outing against the New York Mets on June 8, he allowed eight runs and eight hits.
