Columbus OH,– The Toledo Mud Hens defeated the Columbus Clippers 7-3 to start the weekend.
The action started early for the Mud Hens, in the top of the first inning Justyn-Henry Malloy roped a solo home ru the put the Mud hens in front early. Later in the inning, Tigers top prospect Colt Keith slugged a two run home run deep over the right-field wall to put the Mud Hens up 3-0 in the first.
Bryan Sammons was the starter for the Mud Hens and the ball seem to have to some extra juice in the first inning as Daniel Schneeman roped a solo homer un to get scoring going for the Clippers to make it a 3-1 ball game.
The starter for the Clippers, Jared Eickoff, settled into the game in the second inning, pitching a scoreless frame. In the bottom of the inning, Marcos Gonzales lines an RBI single to centerfield to score the second run of the game for the Clippers and make it a 3-2 ball game.
Both teams were held scoreless until the top of the fourth inning where Andrew Knapp lined one over the right field wall that scored Johan Camargo for a two-run home run and grow the Mud Hens lead to 5-2.
Bryan Sammons‘ day finished after pitching four innings for the Mud Hens. Manager Anthony Iapoce went to Brenan Hanifee out of the bullpen to pitch the fifth inning.
Jared Eickoff’s day finished after pitching 4.2 innings for the Clippers. Entering the game for Eickoff out of the bullpen was Thomas Ponticelli.
Both bullpens did a good job of keeping each other off of the scoreboard until the top of the seventh inning, where RBI singles from Colt Keith and Johan Camargo drove in two runs with two outs in the inning to extend the Mud hens lead and make it a 7-2 ball game.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Micah Pries roped a a solo home run to leadoff the inning and cut the Mud Hens lead down to 7-3.
Sean Guenther entered the game in the eighth inning and retired the frame without giving up a run to take 7-3 lead into the ninth inning
Aneuyrs Zabala entered the game into the ninth inning, for the Mud Hens to try and secure the win. The Clippers fought hard and loaded up the bases to put the tying run at the plate with one out. With the pressure on Zabala bared down and struck out the next two batters to end the game and secure the 7-3 victory for the Hens.
