Toledo, OH – The Toledo Mud Hens wrapped up the 2023 campaign with a 3-2 victory over the St. Paul Saints.

Patrick Murphy started on the mound for the Saints. A single from Solak opened the game then Justyn-Henry Malloy was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second with no outs. Murphy was able to get a double play and a strikeout to end the first inning.

Keider Montero got the start on the mound for the Mud Hens and retired the side in order to get his day going.

Similar to the first inning, the first two Mud Hens batters reached base with no outs. Ryan Kreider singled to left field and Nick Maton came around to score to give the Hens a 1-0 lead.

In the top of the third inning, Colt Keith roped a one-out double to put himself in scoring position. Eddys Leonard then brought him in with a two-run home run to give the Hens a 3-0 lead after three innings.

Montero was shutting out the Saints until the bottom of the fifth inning. Michael Helman recorded the Saint’s first hit of the game to lead off the inning. Then later on in the inning with one out, Jair Camargo hit a two-run home run to make it a 3-2 ball game.

Andrew Vasquez, Sean Guenther and Brendan White combined for three straight scoreless innings to hold the Saints to just two runs. The Mud Hens held a 3-2 going to the ninth inning.

Aneurys Zabala entered the game in the bottom of the ninth inning to try and record the save and win for the Mud Hens. Zabala struck out two of the three batters he faced to secure the save and a 3-2 victory for the Mud Hens.
