Welcome to 2024, and more importantly, welcome to the 6-week countdown to spring training. While the offseason obviously isn’t over yet, there are still free agents on the market, still potential trades hiding up GM sleeves, I think it’s a safe time to start reflecting on how hot stove season went.
In our open thread today, let’s chat about which teams put in the work (and some over a billion dollars in funds) to make a run for the postseason, and which teams seemed to forget anything was supposed to happen over the winter months.
The Dodgers are obviously an unstoppable force in terms of what they did to make 2024 their Best Year Ever™. Not only did they lock Shohei Ohtani down with a truly ludicrous contract, they also traded for Tyler Glasnow, and were the sneaky surprise winners in the Yoshinobu Yamamoto sweepstakes. They definitely put their money where their World Series hopes were.
But they weren’t the only ones. Some just did it with more subtlety. So, let’s talk about who had the best offseason, and which teams left their fans wanting, and where the Tigers fit on that scale. (Safely in the middle, I’d say).
