Tigers Outfielder Kerry Carpenter Remembers His Late Father and Plays with Gratitude and Peace

Detroit Tigers
A 19th round pick in the 2019 draft, Kerry Carpenter debuted with the Tigers in 2022 and had a breakout season in 2023. He looks back fondly at all of the time he spent with his dad on ball fields when he was young and how much he wanted to help him strengthen his game. When Kerry lost his father to cancer in 2020, he was left searching for answers. He calls it a “wake up call” and found peace and purpose in God.

“It frees me up to play with gratitude and frees me up to play with peace and being content in whatever situation, whether you’re struggling or you’re doing well. If I do everything I can to reach my full potential that’s all I can do and I can live with peace if I do that.”
