Tigers Minor League Report podcast with Brandon Day: Ty Madden rises while Josue Briceño cooks

Bless You Boys

Week three of our new podcast collaboration was recorded on Monday night, not long after news of Ty Madden’s promotion to Toledo. The right-hander had a specific issue to correct this season, and a plan to correct it. Like so many Tigers pitchers over the last year, Madden added a split change, and it’s made all the difference against left-handed hitters. At this point you can book him a spot in top 100 prospect lists at mid-season as long as he can keep it going.

Meanwhile, Lakeland continues to be the most interesting level, as Josue Briceño, Max Clark, and Kevin McGonigle join forces in one of the better Low-A lineups around.

Akil Baddoo heated up in Toledo. Justice Bigbie started to get some traction there as well. Erie and West Michigan continue to struggle to find enough offense. We’ll talk about all these topics and much more, kicking things off with Madden’s promotion, and the three problem children of the Detroit Tigers lineup; Spencer Torkelson, Parker Meadows, and Colt Keith. We’ll talk which of the three, if any, we’re most concerned about, and a whole lot more, including why my guest bedroom has those two lamps back there. It’s a tale of brother-in-laws past and present.

Thanks for listening/watching, and we’ll see you here again next week. If you’d care to donate to Tigers Minor League Report to support their ability to get live looks and interviews onsite, please head over to their website and do so. It is much appreciated, and as you here all know, their work in cutting video and getting those interviews makes our coverage here a lot better too.
