We’re back, but the Tigers offense is not. The issues many of their young hitters are having takes center stage in this one after a pretty quiet week around the farm.
Rogelio Castillo and Brandon Day roll with Chris Brown on a brief sabbatical. We’ll discuss why the Tigers offensive struggles go well beyond just plugging holes. If they can’t get Colt Keith and Spencer Torkelson going, the entire project is in jeopardy, and free agency and trades isn’t going to save them, at least not this season.
The options at Toledo aren’t looking too great. We predicted before news dropped last night, that Parker Meadows would be the first domino to fall. We did not predict that Ryan Vilade would be the one coming up in his place. Beyond Vilade, Justyn-Henry Malloy and Jace Jung still have issues to overcome before a call-up for either becomes imminent. Dillon Dingler has gotten a little hot at the plate, but it’s hard to trust it at all. Finally, Akil Baddoo has been going good and might get another look at some point if he can keep it going, and Justice Bigbie seems to be finding his footing at the Triple-A level.
We discussed a very encouraging start to infielder Gage Workman’s season in Erie, why Roberto Campos continues to hold some attention, and the possibility of a cycling up of levels between Jaden Hamm, Luke Gold, and Campos moving to Erie, and Josue Briceño, Max Clark, and Kevin McGonigle’s timetable to move to West Michigan. Expect to see a rotation in the farm by the end of the month.
