Toledo Mud Hens vs. Louisville Bats (postponed)

They were rained out in Toledo on Wednesday, and will make up the game on Friday evening in a doubleheader. It’s a 7:05 p.m. ET start now for Thursday night.

Erie SeaWolves 5, Harrisburg Senators 0 (F/7)(box)

Garrett Burhenn was nearly unhittable in this one, dominating the Senators for six innings while a solid night for the offense was more than enough to win.

The SeaWolves struck early, as Trei Cruz singled and scored on a Ben Malgeri double in the second inning. In the third, Brady Allen walked, advanced on a ground out, and scored on a Gage Workman single to make it 2-0.

Meanwhile, Burhenn struck out 11 hitters, allowing just a hit and three walks over six innings of work.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Carlos Mendoza singled to lead off and Gage Workman reached on an error as Mendoza reached third. A Jake Holton grounder forced Workman at second as Mendoza scored. Chris Meyers singled Workman to third, and a Trei Cruz sacrifice fly brought him home. Ben Malgeri reached on an error as well, and it was 5-0.

Rain cut this one to seven innings, with Joel Peguero closing it out.

Workman: 1-3, R, RBI

Cruz: 1-2, R, RBI

Burhenn (W, 3-1): 6.0 IP, 0 R, H, 3 BB, 11 K

Coming Up Next: It’s a 6:05 p.m. ET start on Thursday night.

Lansing Lugnuts 8, West Michigan Whitecaps 1 (box)

Carlos Marcano and the bullpen struggled to make pitches in traffic and the offense had a bad night at the plate as the Lugnuts took them down on Wednesday. That evens the series at a game apiece.

Marcano only allowed four hits a walk in his three innings of work, but just about everyone who reached scored. It was a similar story for Jack Anderson, who pitched the fourth through the sixth and also allowed four runs.

It was already 7-0 in the sixth when Josh Crouch started the inning getting hit by a pitch. Roberto Campos later singled him home for the only run for the ‘Caps. They managed just five singles and a walk on the night after racking up 17 hits and four home runs on Tuesday.

Campos: 1-4, RBI

Marcano (L, 1-7): 3.0 IP, 4 R, 3 ER, 4 H, BB, 4 K

Coming Up Next: It’s a 7:05 p.m. ET start in Lansing on Thursday night.

Lakeland Flying Tigers 4, Dunedin Blue Jays 2 (box)

The Flying Tigers bounced back with a combined right-left start between Duque Hebbert and lefty Jake Miller. The offense took advantage of their opportunities on a fairly quiet day at the plate as they evened the series as well on Wednesday.

Hebbert spun three innings of one run ball to start things off. With one out in the first, a Hebbert 92.3 mph fourseamer down and away to Joey Votto himself got roasted at 105.3 mph the opposite way, but left fielder David Smith hauled it in. Hebbert got Joey Votto out twice and recorded six straight before issuing a walk to open the top of the third inning. Victor Arias tripled with two outs, and it was 1-0 Dunedin.

Lefty Jake Miller has been outstanding for the Flying Tigers and he was very good again for four innings in this one. The Tigers eighth rounder in 2022 out of Valparaiso, Miller turns 23 years old today. The 6’2” southpaw turns his back to the hitter similarly to Josh Hader and has a pretty good slider-sweeper combination that may just be him varying his release with the same grip. His command of the breaking stuff has been pretty impressive recently. He sits 93 mph with a pretty average fourseamer, but there’s some deception and potential for another gear in that pitch as he develops.

Miller was banged up in 2023 and didn’t really get much development time. He holds a 1.39 ERA through 45 13 innings this season with 60 strikeouts to just seven walks and three home runs. He’s ready to go help the Whitecaps soon.

In this one he tossed four innings of two hit ball without a walk, striking out six, but he gave up a run on a double, ground out, single combination in the top of the fifth.

The Flying Tigers’ offense finally got unlimbered in the bottom half of that inning when Daneurys De La Cruz got a hanger and unleashed a towering opposite field home run to right. Cristian Santana and Kevin McGonigle followed with two-out singles, but Max Clark struck out to end the inning.

Eduardo Valencia singled to open the bottom of the sixth and Jose De La Cruz drew a walk to set up the Flying Tigers big inning. Samuel Gil tripled to right field and it was 3-2 Flying Tigers. A Clayton Campbell sacrifice fly brought Gil home to complete the winning margin in this one.

RHP Connor Holden had good command of his slider and struck out five in two perfect innings to close this one out and collect his first save.

Gil: 1-3, R, 2 RBI, 3B, BB

McGonigle: 1-3, BB

Daneurys De La Cruz: 1-3, R, RBI, HR, 2 K

Miller (W, 5-1): 4.0 IP, ER, 2 H, 0 BB, 6 K

Coming Up Next: It’s an 11:00 a.m. ET start on Wednesday as the two clubs try to take control heading into the weekend.
