2024 MLB draft Day One: Open Thread

Bless You Boys

The draft gets underway at 7:00 p.m. ET. Day one will cover the first two round, as well as Competitive Balance Rounds A and B. The Cleveland Guardians will pick first overall.

The Tigers pick 11th. Late word on the street still seems to resolve around prep LHP Cam Caminiti, but some think that’s a bit of a smokescreen now. OF/SS Theo Gillen did get some late mention from MLB Pipeline as a possibility. Probably we’re going to be surprised.

Cleveland had been heavily linked to Georgia OF Charlie Condon or Virginia SS J.J. Wetherhold. However, JJ Cooper of Baseball America and a few others have suddenly mentioned a switch to Oregon State SS Travis Bazzana. We will know very shortly.

Hopefully the Tigers can do as well as they did last season. At number 11 and without a Comp Balance round A selection, the task is a lot more difficult this time around. They do have a Comp Balance round B selection, so the Tigers will end the night with three new players in the farm system.
