Series Preview: Detroit Tigers hit road for weekday trio at Chicago Cubs

Bless You Boys

The Detroit Tigers wrapped up its second-straight series win this weekend taking two of three from the New York Yankees split between Comerica Park on Friday and Saturday, with the third game played at Historic Bowman Field in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, in this season’s MLB Little League Classic.

AJ Hinch and Co. now hit the road for a seven-game road trip that will all be played in the Windy City, starting with three against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field followed by four against the hapless Chicago White Sox this coming weekend. The stretch represents an excellent opportunity for the Motor City Kitties to breach the .500 mark as the season continues to wane.

As is their wont of late, the Tigers are lining up bullpen games for this week’s trio of contests — but at least all three starting Cubs have been announced.

Series Outlook: Tigers and Cubs match up well

Not only do Detroit and Chicago come into the series with identical records — the two squads also share some similarities on the MLB team leaderboards as well. On offense, the Cubs are ranked 21st in OPS (.693) and 20th in runs scored (522) while the Tigers are ranked 26th (.677) and 21st (518), respectively.

On the mound, the home team is fifth in the majors in ERA (3.71) and 10th in WHIP (1.23) while the visitors are 11th (3.82) and third (1.19), respectively. Both teams are tied in eighth place in batting average against at .237.

The good guys have won six of their last seven games… can they keep it going? We will find out this week.
