Series Preview: Detroit Tigers travel west to face San Diego Padres for 3-game set this week

Bless You Boys

The Detroit Tigers continued their unexpected late-season surge this past weekend by taking two of three at home from the visiting Boston Red Sox, moving them up to two games over the .500 mark with just 24 games remaining on the schedule. Things will not be easy this week as the Motor City Kitties head out for a dreaded West Coast trip.

On the other end of the road is the San Diego Padres, who await AJ Hinch and his gang in Petco Park for a Labor Day tangle on Monday, followed by a day off on Tuesday and then the final two games of the three-game series on Wednesday and Thursday. The Pads are currently tied for second with the Arizona Diamondbacks in the National League East — five games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers and with a plus-three game margin in the NL Wild Card race.

Speaking of the wild card, Detroit is five games out of the final American League spot, with Boston just ahead by a half-game.

Only one starter per game has been announced for this week, with the Padres turning in a pair of TBDs while the Tigers only have one on Monday. Take a look at what is on tap below.
