It has been a full decade since the last time the Detroit Tigers earned a spot in the MLB playoffs, and thanks to a miraculous run that has seen the team go 30-11 over the past two months, they are on the brink of snapping that streak with a wild card spot this fall.
The season’s final series comes at home against the Chicago White Sox, who need just one more loss to set the all-time major-league futility record. They have already surpassed Detroit’s American League mark of 119 and the next defeat will give them the edge over the 1962 New York Mets, who went 40-120 in their inaugural season.
However, it will not be lollipops and rainbows for the Olde English D, as the visitors come in riding a three-game winning streak having swept the also-struggling Los Angeles Angels at home. Recall that the 2003 Tigers won five of their last six games, so nothing is a given even with a historically-awful franchise.
The good news is that the Motor City Kitties have their all-star pitcher TBD lined up for all three games, which has boded well for the team since the trade deadline. Take a look below at who the ChiSox have lined up for this weekend.
