Midweek Open Thread: World Series, Arizona Fall League and other baseball topics

Bless You Boys

The midweek doldrums have arrived ahead of the 2024 World Series, which starts at 8:08 p.m. ET on Friday night in Los Angeles. This year, the Los Angeles Dodgers will face the New York Yankees for all the marbles in what should be an epic battle between two high-priced franchises.

But the Fall Classic is not the only action happening as October quickly wanes. The Arizona Fall League has also been grinding away at its schedule since Oct. 7 and will continue until Nov. 16.

The Detroit Tigers opened the AFL slate with six prospects out in Arizona: C/1B Josue Briceño, SS Peyton Graham, RHP Eric Silva, RHP Rayner Castillo, LHP Jake Miller and RHP CJ Weins. AJ Hinch mentioned the possibility of CF Max Clark making it out but he has yet to check in, while Thayron Liranzo has joined his teammates out west.

Of particular note on that front is Briceño, who earned the AFL Hitter of the Week award as announced on Tuesday. The 20-year-old from Venezuela currently leads the Arizona Fall League in SLG (1.000), OPS (1.514) and total bases (32).

Here is what that looks like in action.
