Erie got on the board in the fourth when Corey Joyce scored Justice Bigbie with a sacrifice fly.

In the middle innings, the two teams traded runs. Bryce Ball’s RBI double in the fourth made it 3-1 Akron. Trei Cruz’s RBI double in the fifth made it 3-2. Korey Holland doubled home a run in the bottom of the fifth to make it 4-2.

In the sixth, Jake Holton doubled home a run with one out to get Erie back to within a run. Later in the frame, Daniel Cabrera took a bases-loaded walk to tie the game at four.

It took until extras for the tie to break. Erie got a pair of two-out runs in the 10th on a passed ball which scored Justice Bigbie and an RBI double hit by Ben Malgeri.

Tyler Mattison was unable to hold the lead in the bottom half. Juan Brito scored the free runner with an RBI single. With two out, Holland lined a soft single to tie the game at six.

Bigbie lined an RBI single to cash in the free runner in the 11th, making it 7-6. Blake Holub entered for the save. His first batter was Joe Donovan, who bunted into a double play when Jake Holton made a diving catch on a popped up bunt before doubling off the free runner Gabriel Rodriguez. Holub then struck out Connor Kokx to end the game.

Mattison (1-0) earned the win in relief after blowing the save. Trey Benton (1-3) took the loss. Holub completed his fourth save.

The series continues at 6:35 p.m. on Thursday with Adam Wolf pitching against Will Dion.
