The Tigers continue to be a heck of a fun team to watch. The blowout of the Texas Rangers on Monday night aside, we’re closing in on three straight months with the Tigers as an above average team. This despite serious weaknesses in the rotation and lineup, and a defensive unit that until recently had

Hopes for a quick return to action for Detroit Tigers righthander Spencer Turnbull were already fading in recent weeks as the team indicated that he was still dealing with discomfort. Unfortunately, the worst scenario was confirmed Tuesday afternoon as the club announced that the 28-year-old will undergo UCL reconstruction surgery. The timing for Turnbull couldn’t
The Summer of the Bird will always be my main introduction to Detroit Tigers baseball as we lived with each thrilling start by young Mark Fidrych. Here we are 45 years later and for the first time, I can recall another young player has burst out of nowhere to capture the hearts and imaginations of…
“Puttin’ in work, making the moves, ready to play.” If you listen to the radio broadcasts, you’ve likely heard this a bazillion times in a commercial for some car company or another, I can’t remember which one. (Datsun? Saturn? Yugo? One of those, I think.) But, I’ll tell ya this, the Tigers’ bats came alive

(Photo by Nic Antaya/Getty Images) The highest branch of the Detroit Tigers’ farm system is Triple-A Toledo, and they pleased their fans and spectators all around with a dazzling 3-0 victory over a feisty Iowa Cubs roster. Mark Leiter Jr was on the mound for Toledo, and he has been nothing shy of spectacular since…
In yesterday’s victory over the Minnesota Twins yesterday afternoon to complete the sweep, there were a few highlights that the Detroit Tigers did to make this possible. Let’s start with Derek Hill’s steal in the 3rd inning. He would later score on a Miguel Cabrera single that made the game at that point 2 to…
What a weekend. Twenty four year old Collin Morikawa won the British Open in his first ever appearance, the hip-hop world lost a legend in Biz Markie, and, oh yeah, the Tigers — despite a pitching staff being held together by craft glue and duck tape — swept the Twins. That last one was fun.
Toledo Mud Hens 3, Iowa Cubs 0 (box) The Hens jumped out to an early lead and the pitching staff did the rest to take the series four games to two. Willi Castro, playing shortstop and leading off, opened the game with a solo shot to right field. Renato Nuñez followed him with a triple
The Tigers completed the series sweep on Sunday afternoon in convincing fashion pounding the Twins 7-0 to wash away the bad taste of their last series prior to the All Star break in Minnesota. The sun was shining in Detroit, Phil Coke was once again in the stands having himself a good time, and the
Sometimes Twitter is the best place to take the temperature of Detroit Tigers fans, other times it could not be worse. The team is now exactly two weeks away from the trading deadline and while there has not been any publicity about the approach that GM Al Avila is taking, manager AJ Hinch sent a…
Friday’s rains brought Saturday pains for the Minnesota Twins so far this weekend, as the Detroit Tigers took the first two of a three-game series in a doubleheader sweep to kick off the second half of the season. The good guys took the first match in a 1-0 seven-inning nail-biter while needing an extra frame
The second half of a Saturday doubleheader between the Twins and Tigers ended in a sweep for Detroit, winning the second game 5-4 in eight innings. Miguel Cabrera hit a weird walk-off bloop single to centre, scoring Jonathan Schoop from first. If that sounds bizarre, well, I’ll get back to it, I promise. It was
It’s been a while, hasn’t it? With the All-Star break, plus Mother Nature dumping a bunch of rain on Friday, the Tigers and Twins eventually got to play a game on a mostly sunny Saturday afternoon. A first-inning leadoff solo home run from Robbie Grossman was the only run in the game, as the Tigers
Just over a year ago, the Detroit Tigers put together one of the most well-regarded drafts in the whole of Major League Baseball. Their 2020 class consisted of six players, and the final to be selected was 3B/RHP Colt Keith. Now a dedicated third baseman, he’s playing his first full season of professional ball with
Welcome back from the All-Star break Detroit Tigers fans! The past several days have been fun ones for the sport of baseball but now it is time to get back to the business of winning games and chasing a playoff spot — well, maybe not for the Tigers but generally speaking, of course. Action had

The Detroit Tigers start the second half of the season at 40-51. They came into the All-Star break looking tired as the bullpen in Minnesota coughed up leads in all four games in the series. But overall, despite being eleven games under .500, the Tigers have been entertaining to watch.
The All-Star Game has come and gone, and while it didn’t go perfectly for the Tigers (at least Soto had that incredible silver glove), it was still a lot of fun and a victory for the AL team. We’ve had a few days with no baseball games, and now we’re back to regularly scheduled programming
Living in Metro Detroit as a Detroit Tigers fan, you get caught up in the day-to-day grind that is baseball. You root for your favorite players and granted, you can sometimes forget to be objective. We all have our local heroes (Don Kelly) and the half-seasons that are still whispered about (Brennan Bosech, Chris Shelton)…
