Atlanta Braves 0 at Arizona Diamondbacks 2, F — Cy Young Award winners Randy Johnson and Greg Maddux faced off in the Series opener at Bank One Ballpark. Though Maddux would only give up two runs in seven innings, he would be outdone by Johnson, who pitched a complete game shut-out with eleven strikeouts.
