Once official, it’ll close the book on a nearly four-season tenure in the Motor City. The Tigers first signed the former All-Star second baseman to a $6.1MM pact heading into 2020.
Detroit – After the 12-2 loss to the Blue Jays Friday night, the Tigers informed veteran infielder Jonathan Schoop that he would be designated for assignment Saturday. Manager AJ Hinch and president Scott Harris delivered the news. The move will clear a roster spot for center fielder Riley Greene, who will be activated off the
DETROIT — Alex Faedo was seemingly set up for an abbreviated start on Friday, in his return from the injured list and his first Major League outing since May 30. If he had gone eight batters, he would have been perfect. Of course, that would have been a short start, even by the Tigers’ bullpen-game
Infielder Jonathan Schoop, an 11-year MLB veteran, has been designated for assignment by the Detroit Tigers ahead of the All-Star break, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. Schoop is owed about $3.47 million of his $7.5 million salary for the 2023 season. The 31-year-old hit .213 with zero home runs, seven RBIs,
Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Alek Manoah stepped onto an MLB mound in a game Friday for the first time since June 5, when a terrible start promoted a rare demotion to the Florida Complex League. Detroit – Alex Faedo, out since June 3 with a finger injury, returned to the Tigers’ rotation Friday night. It didn’t go well. The hard-hitting Toronto Blue Jays tagged him for six runs in the fourth inning and rode that to a 12-2 romp in front of a heavily Blue Jays-flavored crowd of 30,029 at

Erie’s late comeback bid came up short in an 8-7 loss to Altoona on Friday. The SeaWolves struck first against Altoona starter Aaron Shortridge with two first-inning runs. Trei Cruz led off with a first-pitch double. Justice Bigbie scored him with a single. Later, Diego Rincones notched an RBI single Erie’s late comeback bid came
One very bad, no-good inning sank the Tigers in game 1 of their final series of the first half, but they didn’t play the other eight innings well enough to win either. The Tigers did not do much of anything well on Friday night, with defensive mistakes and poor at-bats scattered throughout their performance. After

The Detroit Tigers have been desperate for productive left-handed hitters. Outfielder Akil Baddoo, a left-handed hitter with a 14.3% walk rate, returned from the injured list Friday and started in left field for the series opener against the Toronto Blue Jays at Comerica Park. Riley Greene, another lefty hitting outfielder, is slated to return from
Detroit — Matt Manning, Tarik Skubal, Eduardo Rodriguez and Alex Faedo are back. They are healed and, for now, back in the Tigers’ starting rotation along with Michael Lorenzen and Reese Olson. All good things. But now what? For most of June the Tigers operated with no more than four starters, using planned bullpen games

The MLB Draft starts Sunday night, and runs through Tuesday, with 20 rounds total. Detroit — When it comes to the 2023 Major League Baseball Draft, the Tigers appear to be a bit of a wild card — or, at least as much of a wild card a team can be holding the No. 3
