Detroit — Another day, another couple of new nameplates inside the Tigers’ clubhouse. The Tigers selected infielder Andy Ibanez from Triple-A Toledo and called up shortstop Zack Short before the doubleheader Saturday. Short was up to serve as the 27th player for the doubleheader. Ibanez, 30, takes the place of outfielder Kerry Carpenter, who was
Detroit Tigers left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez couldn’t keep his scoreless streak intact forever. It lasted 18 innings. “Feels good to put zeros on the board,” Rodriguez said. “I don’t really look at how many scoreless innings. I just go out there and put the most zeros I can put on the board to help the team
Detroit — It’s been a bit of a mystery, frankly. With all the roster purging that’s gone on since president Scott Harris took the helm, with all the multiple-positional players that have come and gone the last three years, Zack Short has remained a constant. Not once since he was acquired from the Cubs for
A.J. Hinch speaks postgame about the Tigers collective effort defensively and what he saw from Eduardo Rodriguez today.
Matt Vierling recaps his big day at the plate and the Tigers offense having their best game of the season.
DETROIT — Eduardo Rodriguez wasn’t perfect by any stretch against the Orioles this time, not even on his first pitch. But unlike last time out, he was victorious. His 5 2/3 innings of one-run ball protected an early Tigers offensive outburst for a 7-4 win in Game 1 of a Saturday doubleheader at Comerica Park.
The postponed second game of an extended four-game weekend series between the Orioles and the Tigers finally got underway on a grey but fortunately rainless Saturday afternoon, and the Tigers pounded out a whole lot of hits in a 7-4 win. Infielder Andy Ibáñez, replacing injured outfielder Kerry Carpenter, earned a promotion from Triple-A Toledo. “It’s a blessing,” Ibáñez said. “I’m very happy to be here.” JEFF SEIDEL:

The Tigers have made a series of roster moves this morning, placing outfielder Kerry Carpenter on the 10-day injured list with a right shoulder strain and selecting the contract of infielder Andy Ibanez. To make room on the 40-man roster for Ibanez, right hander Matt Manning was transferred to the 60-day IL. More to come.
The Detroit Tigers revealed several roster moves before Saturday’s doubleheader against the Baltimore Orioles. Infielder Andy Ibañez, the Opening Day third baseman for the Texas Rangers last season, received a promotion from Triple-A Toledo, but to activate him, the Tigers needed to open a spot on the 40-man roster. That’s the bigger news: Right-hander Matt
