Things are bad for the Detroit Tigers right now. Very bad. They are averaging just 3.05 runs per game, which is the lowest in baseball. Their 67 runs through 22 games is the 6th lowest total in franchise history, and the worst since the infamous 2003 season.
There’s nothing wrong with right-hander Michael Fulmer, but the Detroit Tigers are considering sending him back to the bullpen. Manager AJ Hinch is thinking about going to a five-man rotation, at least throughout the upcoming nine-game road trip to Chicago, New York and Boston, which would insert rookie left-hander Tarik Skubal into the starting rotation.
Detroit — Maybe calling it a “modified” six-man rotation is wrong. It might be better to call it a modifiable six-man rotation, or a six-man flex. Tigers manager AJ Hinch and pitching coach Chris Fetter are kicking around the idea of flipping roles again for Michael Fulmer and Tarik Skubal. “We’re talking about what we’re
DETROIT – Michael Fulmer has looked more like his pre-injury self since rejoining the Tigers’ rotation a couple weeks ago. His season-opening stint in the bullpen helped him regain his fastball velocity by taking a reliever mentality into his starts. So why, then, are the Tigers now talking about shifting Fulmer back into the bullpen?
The feel-good feeling from the Houston Astros series for the Detroit Tigers has clearly vanished into thin air as the frustrations of the team’s recent struggles have spilled onto social media. Venting on social media is nothing new. If you go back to the days of newspapers, social media just another evolution of the “keyboard…
Is it too soon to say the “P” word? No, not “playoffs.” And don’t worry, A.I., not “practice” either. No, we’re thinking of a different word… or words, properly: “Punchless.” “Powerless.” “Pathetic.” “Putrid.” “Pitiful.” And, of course, “Pissed off.” (OK, that’s actually two words, but AJ Hinch contributed it, and who are we to ignore
This may blow your mind, but the Detroit Tigers technically aren’t even the worst offense in baseball in the early going. Shout out to the Colorado Rockies and their combined 76 wRC+ for checking in two points lower than our home team. The Milwaukee Brewers’ offense, yes they of the 13-8 record, actually has a
Mired in an ages-long rebuild and with a farm system that isn’t known for players possessing high-end athleticism, outfielder Parker Meadows is a bastion of unrefined physical gifts lurking under the surface of Detroit Tigers prospect coverage. It can sometimes be easy to forget about Meadows, which is peculiar considering he was the first pick
Oof! Amirite? Guys, I’m usually writing this weekly entry on a day where we get a breather. A chance to reflect on the fortunes of our team, be they good or bad. There will be no such reprieve today. This team currently stands in the corner, gloves pulled tightly against it’s skull, shelled up and
A rebuild isn’t an excuse for lethargy. It’s not a free pass to the future. It’s not whatever ugliness the Tigers are offering up right now. They’re the worst team in baseball again, at 7-15. They have one of the worst offenses imaginable, a conglomeration of retreads and scuffling youngsters. With another dreary loss, 4-0

The 2021 MLB Draft is still 11 weeks away, and there’s a tremendous amount still unknown and to be decided in terms of who goes where in the first round. But that won’t stop us from trying to guess. “Guess” might be the operative word in this first mock draft of the season. Jim Callis

(Co-Contributor’s note: This editorial is the first piece from Christopher Mangum, a student at the University of Michigan) In late 2007, the Detroit Tigers acquired a 24-year-old Miguel Cabrera from the then Florida Marlins, a move which would end up introducing Cabrera to his home for what we can assume will be the rest of his career. In his…
Detroit Tigers manager AJ Hinch said it was aggravating, maddening, frustrating and “everything else you can think of” in describing his team’s performance through the last 10 games, in which they’ve lost nine times and scored just 18 runs. The Tigers (7-15) were shutout for the third time this season in Sunday’s 4-0 loss to the
Fellow contributor Jacob Boes mentioned recently that 97.1 The Ticket had a call-in opinion that there were four players he did not want to see again: Joe Jimenez, Jacoby Jones, Niko Goodrum, and Jonathon Schoop. I am going to discuss four players from the Detroit Tigers’ 40-man roster that I do not want to see…
Detroit — It’s gone beyond frustrating now. It’s reached the quicksand phase. You know, where the harder you try to climb out the deeper you sink. “We’re in the trenches together,” manager AJ Hinch said Sunday after the Tigers’ offensive futility continued in a 4-0 loss to the Central Division-leading Kansas City Royals at Comerica
Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal came on in relief of Michael Fulmer today and speaks on his outing with the media post game. #DetroitRoots
In the young baseball life of Joey Wentz, Tuesday of this week will be no ordinary date. He will throw batting practice on the TigerTown compound at Lakeland, Florida. And while that might seem a mundane event, definitely light on drama, it will be theatrical for a 23-year-old, left-handed Tigers prospect who 13 months ago
Detroit Tigers left-hander Tarik Skubal needed 61 pitches to make eight outs in his second long relief appearance this year. The 24-year-old flashed improvements but gave up two runs. That was all the Kansas City Royals needed. The Tigers (7-15) were shutout for the third time in the 2021 season with a 4-0 loss to the Royals
